Looking up IP…
What can an IP address reveal?
Every device on the internet has a public IP address, and that address is tied to public records: the country, region and city it’s assigned to (roughly), the internet provider or hosting company that owns it, and its ASN — the network number that identifies the operator. This lookup reads that public geolocation data for any IP you enter. It shows approximate location, not a street address, and it can’t reveal a person’s identity — an IP maps to a provider and area, not to a name.
FAQ
How accurate is IP geolocation?
Country-level accuracy is very high (often 95%+); city-level is a rough estimate that can be off by tens of kilometres or point to the provider’s hub rather than the user. Mobile, VPN and business IPs are the least accurate. Treat the city as approximate, never exact.
Can I find someone’s exact address or name from their IP?
No. A public IP maps to an internet provider and a general area, not to a person or a home address. Only the provider (and law enforcement with a legal request) can link an IP to a specific subscriber. Public tools like this show provider and approximate location only.
What is an ASN?
An ASN (Autonomous System Number) identifies the network operator that controls a block of IP addresses — an ISP, cloud provider or large company. It’s how the internet’s routing knows which network owns which addresses. The lookup shows the ASN and the organization behind it.
Why does an IP show a hosting or proxy flag?
It means the address belongs to a data centre, VPN or proxy network rather than a home connection. That’s normal for servers, but on what should be a residential visitor it can indicate someone is masking their real location behind a VPN or proxy.
